OPERA-MUSICAL “MIMÌ È UNA CIVETTA” AT THE TEATRO DEL GIGLIO

After the success of previous years, Lucca Puccini Days reaches its third year. It’s the festival that Lucca, a land of great historical and musical tradition, dedicates to its most famous citizen. From November 25 to January 8, there’s a mixture of events dedicated to the Maestro. The event, a collaboration between the City of Lucca, Giacomo Puccini Foundation and the Teatro del Giglio, and organized with the support of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Lucca, also sees the patronage of MIBACT – Ministry of Heritage and Culture and Tourism and Tuscany region, plus – for the third year of the festival – AGIS Tuscany.

The Lucca Puccini Days 2016 program includes different musical experiences ranging from opera to jazz, rock and gypsy music, to narrative theatre. It will be integrated with events by other organizations and associations including the Istituto Musicale Luigi Boccherini.

Derived from Puccini’s La Bohème, “Mimì è Una Civetta” is a musical re-telling of Puccini for jazz-rock band based on the original vocal score. It’s at the Teatro Del Giglio on Saturday, December 3rd. The score was written by Alessandro Cosentino, a classical musician able to move deftly and confidently between opera, rock, jazz and folk. The original idea and production are by Cristina Muti Mazzavillani, who brings to Lucca – exclusively for the festival – a new version of the show after featuring it at the 2015 Ravenna Festival.
